Really, a Weekday Wedding?
IF IT’S GOOD ENOUGH FOR BEYONCE & BRITNEY, I’M DOWN!
With the dreaded Coronavirus wreaking havoc on an estimated 64% of wedding plans in 2020, many couples are having to postpone their original weekend celebration and for the first time consider the option of a weekday wedding. Alongside this, couples who had planned for a potential 2021 wedding are now finding available weekend dates in short supply at their dream venues!
You may have some initial concerns… Worrying that guests won’t take the time off work to attend your celebration, worrying about what your more traditional friends and family will think or worrying about people’s perception of your weekday wedding choice? Let me assure you, if guests really want to be there they will and after this rather strange start to 2020 people will be craving socialisation and reconnection more than ever and be excited at the prospect of celebrating with loved ones.
With the midweek wedding trend already on the rise we expect to see an even bigger shift over the next couple of years, and there are plenty of reasons as to why you should be excited by the prospect of marrying midweek.
show me the money
A large chunk of your wedding budget will no doubt be spent on your venue, opting for a weekday date is likely to significantly reduce this cost in comparison to a Friday or Saturday. The reality is you are still booking the exact venue with the exact same facilities at a reduced cost, in a Summer month this is likely to save you thousands! Your once out of budget dream venue may be a reality after all.
Dream supplier AVAILABILITY
The wedding planner you have imagined coordinating your wedding day, the florist you’ve followed on Instagram ever since you were engaged and the videographer whose films you’ve watched over and over again are just some of the suppliers who are likely to book at least 1, usually 2 years in advance and you won’t want to lose out on such important aspects of your wedding day simply because of what day of the week your wedding is on. With a weekday wedding your chosen suppliers are far more likely to be available likely to get their undivided attention as the only wedding booked on the day.
Not quite what you had in mind
As a wedding planner I am more than aware of the busy weekend schedule belonging to our amazing Registrars, several weddings each day with little time for taking their foot off the pedal. This results in limited options for your ceremony time, specially if you are looking to book a Saturday; they may only be able to conduct a morning ceremony or have something much later in the day. Choose to wed mid-week and there will be far more availability and you can choose exactly when you want your ceremony to take place, as you’ve always imagined it.
get a little extra
The savings you can make on your venue and suppliers by choosing a weekday wedding could mean you have room in your budget for upgrades or extra special finishing touches you could only dream of before. Maybe a luxury dessert table, a personal wedding stylist or the street food in the evening you had previously ruled out?
treat your guests to a day off
Ensure you send save the dates out early enough and your wedding guests should be able to take the day off work in order to attend your special day. No doubt they will enjoy a day or two away from their colleagues and may even be able to turn it in to a mini-break away!
Save your friends and family some cash
Hotel room rates, holiday lets and travel, it’s more affordable and more available during the week - They can thank you later!
make a weekend of it
Couples tend not to get too much time to speak with their guests on their wedding day, why not hold your ceremony during the week so that you can extend your celebrations into the weekend? After all it is likely to be one of the biggest parties of your life! Have a BBQ at the weekend and spend more time with loved ones and family that have travelled to be with you.
no need for reminders
Without the restriction of sticking to a Saturday you can get married on a date that is extra special to you both and holds so much more meaning, maybe the anniversary of when you first met or the date that the proposal happened or maybe just an easier date for the Groom to remember so he never forgets your wedding anniversary!
So, there’s just a few reasons you definitely shouldn’t be disheartened by the idea of having to select a mid-week or weekday wedding date. When the day arrives it will be amazing no matter what day of the week it falls and if you’ve had to postpone and wait a little longer just remember that it is nothing compared to forever.
