Choosing your flowers is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning however, it is definitely not as easy as choosing your favourite bloom alongside your favourite colour. Flowers can completely elevate your wedding styling and I have some tips on how to make the most of your flower power!

1. Do your bit
You’ll need to see a florist to really get started with choosing wedding flowers. Before you visit be sure to research a little bit, do you know the names of those flowers you want? Think about the size of any installations and of course create a Pinterest board or a collection of images to help get your ideas across. You don’t need to be an expert or a member of the Royal Horticultural Society but a little bit of time spent looking into it will help your florist understand exactly what you want.
2. THINK ABOUT YOUR VENUE
Your wedding venue, as well as your table layout, should play a big part in your choice of wedding flowers. You will want a design that compliments and highlights parts of your chosen venue and something that will not look out of place - Discuss this with your florist as they are the experts!
3. RECOMMENDED FLORISTS
You want a florist you can trust but also one that matches your vibe. Getting recommendations from other couples, your venue or other suppliers is always helpful - Also have a good stalk on Instagram and you should be able to get a good idea as to their usual scope of work and overall style. With a great florist, half of your work with your wedding flowers is already done!

4. budget
Flowers are not cheap and if you want high impact you need to consider your budget - You should allow around 10% of your budget for your wedding flowers. Have this in mind and let your florist know a rough budget right from the start - This way they can better inform you as to what is achievable within your budget.
5. SEASONS
One of the most important wedding flower tips is to remember that many flowers are seasonal and may well be out of season when your wedding date comes around. This doesn’t need to be a problem, some of my very favourite florists are growers and will create magic with whatever they have at that moment. There are also a lot of look-alike flowers around now to combat this issue too.

6. pink, but not Too pink…
It helps to let your florist know exactly what colours you have in your mind as just ‘pink’ can mean one hundred different hues from hot pink to dusty mauve! Think about bringing one of your bridesmaids dresses with you, a picture of your dress or any styling info you may have - All of this will help your florist when choosing shades.
7. meanings & Feelings
Every bride should understand that wedding flowers are more than just bouquets and centerpieces. Your choice of blooms, the arrangement style and colours can all carry special individual meanings and dictate a certain style. Why not personalise this and bring meaning into your wedding flowers in more ways than one?
8. Get a proposal
Not another engagement ring, don’t get excited! Your meeting with the florist should also result in a proposal - Inclusive of styling details, an exact list of your proposed wedding flowers, the cost of materials as well as the general breakdown of total costs should be included. Initially this will be an estimate awaiting final details so be sure to find out maximum possible costs as well as the minimum so there are no nasty shocks later on. Talk honestly to your florist about your budget and ways they may be able to help you achieve this.
9. guest experience
Yes, it’s your special day and undoubtedly it is about the two of you. However, it is still important to consider your guests when making your decisions with flowers. Your tablescape design should not get in the way of a good time or good conversations.

10. SAVE THE PLANET
An important thing to consider with florals is the potential for them to be anti-eco friendly. Floral foam is nasty to the environment and there are many florists who will not even consider using it now, worth asking if this is important to you.
