SPONZA PALACE

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Croatia stole a little piece of my heart the very first time I visited and every trip since has been nothing short of magical - The landscapes, the food and the incredible architecture. Dubrovnik has all of these attributes by the bucket-load and is a perfect wedding destination; with short flight times from Europe and a variety of incredible places to create your dream celebration.

Sponza Palace has always caught my eye and the inspiration for the styling here was to create modern minimalism with a consideration for the textural aspect of the design. A muted colour palette compliments the Croatian stone with a contemporary design that allowed the venue to shine.

Delicate curtains created by Twisted Sisters framed the main archway, the ruffles made to evoke interest and force a change of texture from the flat stone. The explosions of florals either side of the aisle by Patrea (a regular when it comes to a Sponza Palace wedding) created a sense of luxury while softening the space just enough.

This sort of space demands a wow-factor dress and this gown by Willow Victoria, paired with accessories by Botias did not disappoint in providing worthy Sponza Palace wedding inspiration. Statement puff sleeves and a signature Rebecca Anne veil felt right at home within the stone surrounds.

It is not difficult to understand why Sponza Palace is Croatia’s most popular choice for a wedding ceremony. Dating back to the 15th Century and located in the very heart of Dubrovnik Old Town, it is a beautiful mix of Gothic and Renaissance style - Expect cheers from the tourists and locals alike as you head through the Old Town to say your vows.

As you can imagine there are countless locations in Dubrovnik to visit for your couple portraits, one of my all time favourite spots is the perfectly instagrammable Excelsior Hotel - Based on the edge of the ocean it boasts archways to die for and of course, the stand-out pool.

The inspiration here came from the clean lines and movement of the neighbouring ocean. I wanted to showcase a modern yet relaxed wedding style and this gown from Charlie Brear was a perfect match.
