Expert Wedding Day Make Up Tips
MUA AMY ROSE ANSWERS YOUR BRIDAL MAKE UP QUESTIONS
Amy works on daily basis at the forefront of the fashion industry, represented by a top London agency, and with a portfolio boasting a string of celebrity clients and high profile brands, you could not be in safer hands on your wedding day!
I asked Amy some of the most popular questions I have from my Brides and her answers are below.
How would you suggest brides go about choosing their wedding make up looK AND Where should they get inspiration from?
I always want my brides to look like the best version of themselves, so when thinking about your bridal look don’t feel like you have to change who you are just because it is your wedding day!
Pinterest is a fantastic way of getting bridal make up inspiration! It is such a simple way to collate images all in one place. Once you have selected your first bridal image Pinterest will automatically suggest similar looks, making it an effortless task.
Following creative Instagram accounts such as @glamazonkw or your favourite cosmetic brands such as @ctillburymakeup will give you access to thousands of modern make up looks.
Should brides take into account the season they are marrying in?
I think most modern make up transcends between seasons, however it really depends on your overall theme and vibe of your wedding day.
I often find winter brides will go for a darker berry lip or rusty coral lip, this is usually to tie in with bridesmaids dresses and flowers. Scarlet Spell & Rose by Charlotte Tilbury are gorgeous winter shades!
Should THEY choose a bold lip colour or something THEY are more used to?
When thinking about a bold lip colour, the first thing I ask my bride is if she is happy to touch up lipstick throughout the day; if touching up isn’t for you I would probably stick to a neutral shade.
If you are new to colour I would recommend wearing a bright lipstick at home, take selfies (not just pouts but smiling) and see how it wears throughout the day, but most importantly see how comfortable you feel.
Do you think a makeup trial is vital?
A make up trail is a great way for you to get to know your make up artist and allows you the opportunity to create and develop you dream make up look together. I ask my brides to bring with them any images of inspiration and to arrive wearing their day to day make up, this gives me a great insight in to their personality, as I want them to look like the most refined, beautiful version of themselves.
Should A BRIDE opt for waterproof mascara due to potential tears?
For me waterproof mascara is a must!
My go-to is Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes Waterproof 01 Black.
IS SELF-TANNING RECOMMENDED FOR A wedding?
This is a completely personal choice, and you will look absolutely gorgeous either way! If you do decided to go down the tanning route whether you decide on a professional or home tan make sure you have a trail run before your big day!
Amanda Harrington is my go to for both professional and home tanning.
What are your top 3 wedding day products?
Blotting paper, powder and lipstick, will keep you looking fresh all day long!
FOR COVID BRIDES (AND THEIR GUESTS) - How do you make your make up last LONGER under a mask?
Try and stick to matte products especially on the lips, this will reduce transfer and smudging. Wearing a primer underneath your base and finishing your make up with a setting spray will also ensure your make up has longevity!
My favourite are Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray and NARS Pore and Shine Control Primer.
Is there a type of Foundation that will appear better in photos?
The most requested look by my brides is flawless glowing skin, and I genuinely find the key is less is more! Applying minimal foundation and taking the time to carefully conceal specific areas will give the appearance of beautiful natural skin in your wedding photos.
